Known Problems with the EMWAC Internet Mail Services

The following known problems exist with the Internet Mail Services.

• SMTPDS sometimes terminates unexpectedly. We cannot reproduce this problem, so we are relying on information from users like yourself to try and determine the cause. You can help by sending in a Dr Watson log for the problem.

  To create a Dr Watson log, you need to set up Dr Watson as your "debugger" under Windows NT. To do this, issue the command drwtsn32 -i at the command prompt. (If you have installed the Win32 SDK or MSVC, this will disable the "Just-in-time" debugging feature of these tools - you can re-enable by following the instructions in their documentation.) Then, when the error occurs, Dr Watson will create a .LOG file in (by default) the Windows NT directory. Please mail the log file to C.J.Adie@ed.ac.uk.

• If you try to run POP3S.EXE on a NT 3.50, an error message says "The procedure entry point LogonUserA could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll".

  The EMWAC IMS POP3S.EXE (all versions) uses NT 3.51 security features for user and password validation. Therefore, you have to use NT 3.51 for the POP3S service.

  You have to use NT 3.51 or higher to run the EMWAC IMS.

• If you received "Logon failure[1385]" from your POP3S, the user does not have "Log on as batch job" right. You should assign this right for any IMS POP3S users on NT Workstation or Server. See step 12 in the Installing section of Obtaining and installing the software.
